Bloc Birmingham announces aparthotel expansion

Budget chain Bloc is to expand its original Birmingham site with the addition of 30 aparthotel rooms to the 73 existing bedrooms. The extension, linked by a glass walkway to the existing building will create a total of 103 rooms.

The aparthotel rooms have been described as "an evolution "of Bloc's original room concept. A spokesperson for the company said: "The room has been designed to maximise the feeling of space, and give you the very best everything you need, removing unnecessary wasted space. The rooms will be ideal for the longer stay business or leisure traveller, which our original rooms do not cater for, and will complete our offering nicely."

The new rooms, which Bloc plans to open by May or June 2015 will include a microwave and a fridge as part of the new kitchenette feature.

The budget hotel, which opened in 2011, launched a second hotel at Gatwick Airport in February 2014. The spokesperson added: "We have very aggressive expansion plans, and are very close to securing further sites, with announcements to be made as we do so."

Birmingham practice BPN Architects has designed the extension, which will be built by Bloc's sister company, Boxbuild.
