Carlson Rezidor explores sale or merger options

A merger or partnership are also to be considered for the USA-based company, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Carlson's exploration of a sale is the latest step to be taken towards further consolidation in the hotel sector following last year's announcement that Marriott International is to acquire Starwood Hotels & Resorts for £8b and AccorHotels had agreed terms to buy Fairmont, Raffles and Swissôtel.

Carlson Rezidor has nearly 1,400 hotels operating under eight brands. In Europe, the company operates as the Rezidor Hotel Group with four brands: Radisson Blu, Radisson Red, Quorvus Collection and Park Inn.

In the latest financial results for the Rezidor Hotel Group, for the nine months from January to September 2015, revenue was up 8.6% to £199m, while revenue per available room grew by 8.7%.
