Correction: Christian Delteil is alive and well

Christian Delteil is very much alive, having just launched a new bed and breakfast business in the south west of France.

Caterer and Hotelkeeper reported online last night that the chef had died, based on information we took in good faith. But, we are happy to clarify that he is fit and well and busy setting up his new venture.

Gure Lana in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port has four bedrooms. Located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, 45km from Biarritz, the property is close to the traditional starting point for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

The Delteils grow herbs in the garden and have an orchard providing them with apples, plums and figs, which they use to make jam. Christian also prepares evening meals when requested.

Genevieve said that she and her husband always intended to return to the south west of France once their children had grown up. Their daughter Lauriane runs a dance studio in London and their son Sebastien is assistant lodge manager at Kauri Cliffs, a Relais & Chateaux hotel in New Zealand.

"We are all very well here and hope everyone will come and see us," she said.

Caterer and Hotelkeeper apologises for any distress caused to family and friends regarding our earlier article.
