Crowne Plaza hotel set for London's Albert Embankment

An 142-bedroom Crowne Plaza hotel is to open on the Albert Embankment close to the new American Embassy in Battersea, London, in May.

Owned by Dr Mudhar Shakat of Cannon Corporate, the property is being developed on a site which was previously occupied by an office block within a wider area of regeneration between Battersea Power Station and Embassy Gardens.

It will be operated by Cannon Corporate under a franchise agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) under the name of Crowne Plaza London - Albert Embankment.

Set to enjoy views from the South Bank overlooking the River Thames, the hotel will feature an American lobby bar and restaurant to appeal to staff working in the nearby US Embassy, as well as a second eaterie for up to 70 guests on the 14th floor sky terrace, and a gym.

Created by ADS Design and RPW Design, the hotel will feature the new £150m brand standards introduced last year from Crowne Hotels & Resorts, with its "We're All Business, Mostly" tag-line.

Fabio Gallo has been appointed as general manager, having joined the hotel from the same role at Melia Hotels' ME London. He was previously general manger at the Cadogan London and the Baglioni hotel, also in the capital.

Gallo said: "We are thrilled to be leading the way as part of Crowne Plaza's pioneering new concept, offering a premium and innovative service for the modern business traveller.

"We understand that in a city that's ‘always on' we need to provide a hub where guests can work efficiently and comfortably, whilst simultaneously offering a vibrant space to relax, enjoy and revive at the end of the day. Crowne Plaza London Albert Embankment is at the very heart of this mind-set."

An executive chef is currently in the process of being appointed.

Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts currently has more than 400 properties open worldwide and a further 84 in the pipeline.
