Cumberland hotel welcomes artist-in-residence
Inspirational painter and athlete Gregory Burns has been announced as the first artist-in-residence at the Cumberland hotel in London.
Throughout July, Burns will be found at the 1,019-bedroom hotel, creating a bespoke collage of his journey through the capital. He will source inspiration from the hotel's location, guest experience and staff memories.
Burns, who has held 80 solo and group exhibitions in 12 countries worldwide, had polio as a child. Driven by a can-do attitude, he later went on to win six gold and silver medal and break five world records at three Paralympic Games as a swimmer.
He said: "Thanks to The Cumberland hotel I have a chance to speak to guests and staff from all over the world and capture what London means to them. My painting is inspired by a collection of people with personal experiences and I look forward to adding to it over the next few weeks."
To celebrate Burns' presence in the hotel, the Cumberland has introduced an Art-full package, offering guided walks to nearby art hot spots, an art-inspired cocktail, an art pack and a meeting with Burns. Prices start from £299 per head.
