David Connell is new GM at Lainston House hotel

Country house hotel group Exclusive Hotels has appointed David Connell as the new general manager of its 17th century Hampshire property, Lainston House Hotel in Winchester.

Connell has worked for Exclusive Hotels since 2002. He began as restaurant manager at Pennyhill Park Hotel & the Spa and worked his way up to deputy general manager in 2008 before taking his new position at Lainston House this month. Connell said: "After eight years working with Exclusive Hotels, I have reached a turning point in my career. Becoming general manager of Lainston House is my highest achievement to date and I couldn't be happier.

"Working my way up the ranks has helped me to understand every sector within a hotel and that each role is important in ensuring a motivated staff and happy guests. Lainston House is a gem of a property and I look forward to working with my new team".

Lainston House is set in 63 acres of Hampshire parkland. Head chef Andy Mackenzie oversees the rearing of the hotel's own pigs, the production of its own honey and an organic apple orchard and kitchen garden.
