Developer gets green light for £30m hotel in Leeds
A £30m hotel in the centre of Leeds has been given the go-ahead and is set to open by 2012.
Property developer Oxford GB has obtained planning permission from the city council to build the 244-bedroom hotel and will appoint an operator imminently.
This site is located adjacent to Millennium Square, Leeds Metropolitan University and restaurants, bars and offices.
The hotel will be constructed by GB Building Solutions, which recently completed the first Hilton Garden Inn at Luton as part of the Oxford GB joint venture.
The company plans to develop 15 sustainable hotels in the mid- to high-end market over the next five years, all of which will operate under international brands.
Simon Wood, chairman of Oxford GB, said: "Oxford GB's aim is to provide a high quality hotel, right where it is most needed. Occupancy levels have typically been very high in Leeds hotels and with so much development, hotel rooms in Leeds will be in even higher demand.
"Achieving planning permission for a good quality hotel right on the doorstep of the arena means that we can provide much needed hotel accommodation right in the heart of Leeds, at a time that will tie in with greatly increased demand."
Oxford GB was formed in April 2006 as a joint venture between GB Building Solutions and Oxford Hotels Ltd. GB Building Solutions has recently completed hotels at Luton, Newcastle and Cheltenham.
