Edge Hotel School appoints Stephen Mannock as GM
Stephen Mannock has been appointed general manager of the new hotel school and country house hotel due to open in Colchester, Essex, in spring 2012.
The 40-bedroom Edge Hotel School will be the UK's first hotel school based entirely in a fully operational business, run and staffed by students. Based at the Grade-II listed Wivenhoe House, which is currently undergoing a £10m refurbishment, the school is a partnership between the independent education foundation Edge, the University of Essex and its academic partner Kaplan Open Learning.
Currently programme director for the National Skills Academy for Hospitality, Mannock will take up his new position in November.
He is a well known judge at hospitality competitions, having chaired the waiter judges in the Young Chef Young Waiter of the Year event for the past three years, as well as being involved in the Nestlé Toque d'Or and the Academy of Food and Wine's Restaurant Manager of the Year competitions.
Mannock described the Edge Hotel School as "an exciting new venture which will raise the bar in providing a professional education which meets the needs of the international hotel industry. "
"Guests can look forward to an intriguingly different experience, with the flair and attention to detail you would expect from the future leaders of the industry," he added.
Mannock trained as a chef at Huddersfield Technical College and entered the industry as a trainee assistant manager at Rookery Hall in Cheshire, where he completed a two-year training scheme.
He has also worked at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel as food and beverage manager, as general manager of a number of privately owned hotels, and held a senior post at Darlington College.
The Edge Hotel School will feature period suites and rooms, a new garden wing, a signature restaurant for formal dining, a brasserie for informal dining, and meeting rooms.
