Edinburgh's George Hotel auctions rooftop suite for New Year's Eve

The four-star, 249-bedroom George Hotel in Edinburgh is auctioning its rooftop function suite for Hogmanay, with 20% of the proceeds going to charity.

With views over the city, from Edinburgh Castle across to Leith, the Panorama suite with terrace can accommodate up to 50 people.

It is the second year that the suite has been auctioned for New Year's Eve. Last year, an Edinburgh hair salon paid £970 for the space, and donated a further £400 to charity.

"This year we are raising money for a local charity, Cash for Kids," said the hotel's director of sales, Douglas Campbell. "The winners of the auction will get the suite from 9pm to 1am , together with a glass of Champagne per person and canapés.

"It is a great way of creating some PR, while at the same time helping the charity."

The auction, which is being held on Ebay, comes to an end on 10 December. The minimum bid is £400.
