Falmouth hotel destroyed by fire to be rebuilt ‘bigger and better' than before

The 120-bedroom Best Western Falmouth Beach hotel in Cornwall, which was destroyed by fire last week, is to be rebuilt "bigger and better" than before.

Hazel Evans, who has owned the hotel with her family since 1984, said she was devastated by the blaze, the cause of which is still being investigated.

"Over the years our family has worked hard to build up the business with one of the best reputations in Falmouth." explained Evans. "To see that hard work go up in flames was heartbreaking. Our family will now work harder than ever to make sure that we are back in business in Falmouth as soon as possible and that the Best Western Falmouth Beach hotel that we once knew and loved will be restored to its former glory."

Both the Evans family and Best Western have been inundated with messages of support and good wishe, since the fire which swiftly spread through the building on 30 April, causing the roof to collapse. "We would like to thank everyone for their continuing support at what has been a difficult time," said Evans.

Work has started on the demolition of the hotel, while the owners are already talking to planners about what the new hotel will look like.
