Forest Side opens in Lake District after £4m renovation

Forest Side in the Lake District, Cumbria has launched following an 18-month renovation totalling £4m.

The 20-bedroom hotel and 50-cover restaurant with a bar and lounge is set in a 19th-century Victorian property near Grasmere.

Kevin Tickle, who was the former sous chef and head forager at L'Enclume for eight years, will be heading up the kitchen.

He went on to become head chef at Rogan & Co for a further year before he was approached by Andrew Wildsmith of Wildsmith Hotels about the new role.

His menu will change daily based on available produce within the 46 acres of grounds and restored Victorian-walled kitchen garden.

The hotel interior has been designed by Lancaster based Mackies Interior Design and Decoration.

Many of the old materials from the original building have been recycled, including the floorboards which have been used to make the restaurant tables, chef's pass and room signs.

Forest Side is the third hotel from Wildsmith Hotels, joining the Ryebeck in Bowness-on-Windermere and Hipping Hall in Kirkby Lonsdale.
