Former GM of Stafford London appointed MD of hotel on Caribbean island of Bequia
Christine Hodder, former general manager of the Stafford London hotel, has been appointed managing director of the Bequia Beach hotel in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
She has taken up the position on the island of Bequia, the second largest island in the Grenadines, following an international career spanning more than 35 years. She is joined by the newly appointed general manager Christopher Eastmond, who has moved from Curtain Bluff Resort, Antigua.
Owned by Bengt Morstedt, Bequia Beach features 58 suites, two restaurants, spa, gym, two swimming pools and an outdoor rock shower. Its contemporary take on colonial Caribbean architecture is inspired by the Mustique architect Oliver Messel.
Hodder started her career at the Carlton Tower in London's Knightsbridge, which later became the Hyatt Carlton Tower and where she ended up as area director of sales and marketing. During her time with Hyatt International she was seconded to Australia and New Zealand, before spending the next decade based in Hong Kong for Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group as area director of sales and marketing for Asia Pacific.
She also worked for Starwood Hotels & Resorts & Resorts in the Far East and Four Seasons Hotels, based in Singapore, in the midst of which she returned for a two year stint in London as general manager at the Chelsea hotel.
In 2002 Hodder was appointed general manager of the Miami-based World of ResidenSea, where she spent three years managing the operations side of the ship. She then returned to London again as general manager of the Red Carnation-owned Milestone hotel before returning to Asia to open two properties: the Amara Sanctuary hotel on Sentosa Island, Singapore, Puli hotel and spa in Shanghai, before moving to Aman Summer Palace in Beijing as general manager.
Hodder, who also runs the hotel management CHC Consultancy, was general manager at the Stafford London for two years from 2013. She will work closely with Morstedt in overseeing the Bequia Beach's operations, marketing and new projects with the company, which encompasses a developing real estate portfolio. She will divide her time between the UK, Americas and Bequia.
