Being developed by Malaysian-based YTL Hotels in conjunction with Wessex Water, the luxury 99-bedroom hotel is located within a Grade II-listed Georgian property which once housed the United Hospital. It will also incorporate Bellots House (once Abbey Church House), the only remaining Elizabethan building in Bath - linked to the Gainsborough by a newly formed tunnel.
The hotel will feature a 95-seat contemporary English restaurant with hints of Asia - which will aim to sit above its competitors in Bath, alongside a 45-seat lounge and bar, conference facilities for up to 300 people and the 1,300sqm Spa Village, which will have direct access to Bath's celebrated waters.
Interiors will be by Champalimaud Design, which has worked on the Carlyle in New York and the Dorchester in London, with original architectural features of the property enhanced by a contemporary look.
YTL Hotels is the hospitality arm of one of Malaysia's leading conglomerates, YTL Corporation Berhad, which owns the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
Leading Hotels of the World currently represents more than 430 hotels in 80 countries.
The Gainsborough Bath Spa joins the Muse Saint Tropez in France as YTL's second hotel in Europe. YTL also owns three cottages to let in Bray, Berkshire.
