GM Anthony Cox to leave Danesfield House for Thyme

Anthony Cox is to step down as general manager at Danesfield House in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, to take on the same role at Thyme in Gloucestershire.

In his new role, Cox will oversee a collection of 17th-century farm buildings, houses and cottages on the Southrop Manor Estate that make up the 31-bedroom Thyme hotel (pictured), Meadow Spa, Ox Barn restaurant, cookery school, Baa bar and the Swan pub.

He will join Thyme on 7 January after spending five years at Danesfield House, replacing Dominic Abbott who joined the hotel in 2014.

Cox said: "The owners of Thyme, Caryn Hibbert and her family, have created a very special place over 15 years, working with the historic buildings and the farm that surrounds them to create a thoughtful place with love and attention lavished on every detail. I am very excited to be joining the team and working alongside Caryn to help take the business onto its next stage. I hope to continue to provide guests at Thyme with a home away from home experience."

Hibbert, who studied medicine and went on to work as an obstetrician and gynaecologist, added: "We have huge admiration for Anthony Cox's wealth of experience not only in hospitality but also in luxury brands. He brings with him not only experience but energy and ideas and I look forward to working with him.

Prior to joining Danesfield House, Cox was hotel director at the Vineyard hotel in Stockcross, Berkshire. He left Highbury College, Portsmouth in 1995, where he studied for an HND in hotel and catering management, and went on to work in food and beverage and operations management for Marriott Hotels, Queens Moat House, MacDonald Hotels & Marston Hotels. His first general manager role came in 2003 at Bailbrook House in Bath.

At Danesfield House, Cox was also responsible for Spa Illuminata in London.
