Google Maps tests out hotel search and booking service

Potential hotel guests may soon be able to use Google Maps to search for properties to stay at and check room rates.

Google has begun testing a service which will enable users to search for a hotel for specific dates and see the range of prices available. There will also be the opportunity to click through to a list of advertisers and reserve a room on the hotel website.

The trial involves a limited number of advertisers and will be visible only to a small portion of users.

"We will evaluate the usefulness and effectiveness of this new feature based on both data and feedback, and hope to make it available to more users over time," said Andrew Silverman, product manager at Google.
