Gordon Ramsay and Mary Portas join forces for hotel reality show
Two of Channel 4's biggest stars, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and retail expert Mary Portas, are joining forces to run a hotel for a new reality television programme.
Hotel Britannia is intended to become a training round for a group of unemployed people who are looking for a break in the industry. Ramsay and Portas will be joined by some of Channel 4's other star names who will together turn the hotel into a fund-raising machine.
Each of the Channel 4 names will mentor two of the hotel's workers, train them and support them through major events and challenges. Meanwhile, members of the public can book to stay in the hotel or visit the spa and restaurant and pay for the services on offer.
Channel 4 controller Jay Hunt said that the programme will be about what Channel 4 does best: "bringing complex issues alive with real creative flair."
The programme is being produced by Optomen, which was responsible for Ramsay's earlier series such as Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and The F-Word, as well as Portas's Mary Queen of Shops.
