Government to help hotels bid for public sector tenders
Hoteliers are being invited to win a larger slice of the public sector market by taking part in the tender process for the new Government Hotel Programme (GHP).
Due to be launched later this year, the GHP will feature a cross section of recommended hotels and serviced apartments, all offering pre-negotiated prices and terms and conditions.
Public servants will be directed toward GHP approved hotels and serviced apartments when booking accommodation through their existing travel management companies or agencies.
Both large hotel groups and small independent operators are invited to tender to Buying Solutions, the national procurement partner for UK public services.
Category director for travel at Buying Solutions, Stephen Bloor, is anticipating strong interest in GHP.
"The public finances are under intense scrutiny and achieving value for money is more important than ever," he said. "But there remain many thousands of public servants who will still require overnight accommodation at sensible, affordable prices in order to carry out their duties.
"The GHP tender process presents an excellent opportunity to win a valuable place on our recommended list of hotels and serviced apartments and thereby improve the prospects of winning public sector customers. I would encourage all hoteliers to take part in the procurement process."
The GHP tender process is due to start in March 2010. More details can be found at: www.buyingsolutions.gov.uk/categories/travel/governmenthotelprogramme or by calling 03454 102222.
