Great Hallingbury Manor sold to Surya Hotels

The four-star, 47-bedroom Great Hallingbury Manor has been bought for about £2.5m by East Anglia-based Surya Hotels.

Great Hallingbury previously belonged to Escape Hotels UK, which owned the hotel for three years until going into administration in 2010. Former chef de cuisine at London's Savoy hotel, Anton Edelmann, headed the restaurant Anton's at the hotel during Escape Hotels' ownership, but later left the property.

Legacy Hotels and Resorts operated the hotel, which is situated within an estate of 4.6acres adjacent to Stanstead Airport, during the course of the administration.

Brian van Oosten, sales director of Surya Hotels, said the company intends to invest in Great Hallingbury "to maintain the property's status as one of the best in the area."

He explained that he will be using Surpanational Hotels, as the hotels central reservation system and GDS distribution partner. "It is a continuation of our co-operation with Supranational as they are also partner of our other three properties."

Surya Hotels existing properties include the Duke's Head in King's Lynn, Norfolk; the Kingscliff in Holland-on-Sea, Essex; and the Mill hotel in Sudbury, Suffolk.
