Great Hotels consortia to sell rooms on Ebay

The Great Hotels Organisation (GHO) has signed a deal with internet auction site Ebay to sell hotel rooms online from next month.

Hotel rooms at GHO-owned marketing consortia Great Hotels of the World and Special Hotels of the World will be up for sale before Christmas. This will include deals from properties in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Sweden. Room offers are placed on the site with a minimum package or price per night, and then sold to the highest bidder.

Richard Barnes, managing director of hotel representation at GHO, said: "Ebay has created a whole new way for consumers to buy and is fast becoming an important distribution channel for hotels.

"We are confident that this will provide our members with good, incremental, repeat business."

Other hotel chains, including Marriott and Mercure, already offer rooms on Ebay.

On Friday (11 November) a weekend for two at the five-star Marriott at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin (two nights) sold for £160 on Ebay.
