The Haymarket hotel in London has been named the top hotel in the UK in the annual TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards.
Owned by Firmdale Hotels, which is headed by Tim and Kit Kemp, the 50-bedroom hotel was also the only UK hotel to make it into the list of the world's top 20 hotels, at number 20, and achieved seventh place on the list of European hotels.
Now in their 13th year, the awards are based on the quality and quantity of reviews on TripAdvisor and include categories of top hotels, bargain properties, B&Bs and inns, family, luxury, romantic and small hotels.
Lisa Brooklyn-Fuhres, general manager of the Haymarket hotel, said the group was "thrilled and honoured" to receive the award. "We truly value our TripAdvisor reviews and constantly strive to give our guests a memorable experience. This wouldn't be possible without such a brilliant team and this is a testament to all their hard work."
Haymarket knocked the Milestone, also in London, off the top spot from last year into second place, while Rudding Park in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, came third.
Meanwhile, the Lawton Court hotel in Llandudo, North Wales secured the top spot in three UK categories: best small hotels, best service and best bargain hotels. In the other UK categories, the Chester Residence in Edinburgh was named top luxury hotel; the Old Rectory, Martinehoe, Devon - best for romance; Doric, Blackpool - best for families; and Millgate, Masham, North Yorkshire - best B&B and inn.
