Hilton handed a trio of awards at the Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards

Hotel group Hilton has scooped a trio of awards at the Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards.

The hotel group was named Favourite Hotel Chain, Best UK Hotel Chain and Best Hotel Chain (Worldwide) at the ceremony attended by the top companies in the UK travel industry.

Hotelier and restaurateur Stanley Tollman was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his service to the industry through the Travel Corporation, which operates in 60 countries and includes Red Carnation Hotels and Trafalgar Tours.

A native South African, Tollman has spent 60 years building the family business while also working to preserve animals on the verge of extinction in the country, as well as supporting heritage projects and budding artists.

Meanwhile, Four Seasons was named Best Hotel Chain.

Addressing travel agents at the awards ceremony Clive Jacobs, Travel Weekly Group chairman, said: "The economic outlook continues to be cloudy, but I am greatly encouraged by the number of travel companies which have demonstrated sound business sense and flair to challenge the norm and flourish against a tumultuous backdrop.

"The relevance of the Globe Travel Awards is clearly demonstrated by the ongoing support of our sponsors and the many thousands of agents who cast their votes, and I would like to extend a personal thank you to them all."

The awards, run in association with headline sponsor Mail Newspapers, are voted for solely by travel agents, and are the biggest in the travel industry calendar.
