Hilton International

The world's #1 hotel brand
Year after year, independent research confirms that Hilton is the world's most powerful hotel brand with Hilton International currently operating 400 hotels in over 77 countries. However, at Hilton we know that in order to remain # 1, we need to attract and retain the right people and be regarded as an Employer of Choice in the hospitality industry.

"Esprit, the Spirit of Hilton" A company's culture is fundamental to how it does business and looks after its people. We have a very special and distinct culture within Hilton International that we call "Esprit, the Spirit of Hilton". Esprit is based on recognising and rewarding our people for their achievements and contribution to our business. Esprit is also about adding value, improving self esteem and making people feel at ease so that they feel good about what they do and comfortable with taking initiatives and going the extra mile. Every Hilton person is a special individual and with Esprit, we care for the well-being, cultural differences and motivation of our people.

A tangible way that we are able to recognise and reward our people is through offering an extensive range of benefits, including discounted stays at our hotels worldwide, membership of our LivingWell Health Clubs and special discount offers on various products and services all over the world.

Opportunities for talent @ Hilton As an international company we are able to offer careers without boundaries anywhere in the world. The diversity of our talent pool is reflected in our recruitment methods and there are many avenues into Hilton International.

We strongly focus on building and maintaining good relationships with hundreds of universities, colleges and schools around the world. Internships and work placements have proven a fantastic way for people to join us and to make sure these opportunities are promoted we send our Internship Opportunities List to various universities, colleges and schools on a monthly basis.

Hundreds of graduates apply every year to Hilton International through our award winning fast-track programme "Elevator". The programme recently won the Worldwide Hospitality Award for the "Best Development Programme for Young Employees" in November 2005.

Elevator aims to develop graduates to become Hilton General Managers within 5-8 years of starting the programme. Participants complete an initial 18-month training that consists of two 9-month placements. During their placement, the participants work in all main business areas combining operational, all-round experience with off-the-job training and business driven projects. After completion of the initial training, we continue to invest in the participants' development and monitor their career progression to ensure they reach the position of General Manager within the timeframe.

Applying to a company can be a frustrating experience. Our new on-line talent tracking system
(www.peoplefactors.com/hilton/talenttracking) allows people who are interested in working for us to create and then manage on an ongoing basis their own professional profile. Their profile is available to our Human Resources Managers worldwide, enabling them to match any career opportunity to a suitable candidate.

Developing talent @ Hilton
Hilton International is famous for its commitment to the learning and development of its people. All of our training activities are under the umbrella of our "Hilton University". Through the Hilton University our people have free access to more than 300 e-learning courses, on-line language learning, an on-line business library and other on- and off-line training initiatives to help develop their skills. Innovative technology now enables us to offer even more opportunities for our people to learn and grow, for example the introduction of a virtual classroom system where participants can take part in on-line learning sessions with colleagues from around the world.

Hilton International is dedicated to developing its people at all levels from Receptionist to Vice President. An example of this is our recent investment in a series of development programmes aimed at our senior and executive community that take place at the renowned international business school IMD (Institute of Management Development) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Our commitment to developing our people also extends to their career progression. We have several structured programmes in place that are designed to help our people at all levels reach their full potential and progress within our company. An example of such an initiative is our "SHINE" programme, which is designed to advance either current Heads of Department to a Director level or current Directors to General Management level. Participants are coached and mentored through a 9-month programme of specific residential and e-learning courses designed to help them fine-tune their skills to the desired level.
