Hilton remains top brand for business travellers

Hilton has retained its title as the favourite hotel brand for business travellers in Western Europe in the 2008 BDRC Hotel Business Guest Survey.

The survey of 3,642 business travellers in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland and Belgium, revealed that Holiday Inn ranks second with Best Western third. However, both brands trail a considerable distance behind Hilton.

Radisson continues to improve particularly in the UK and Germany and is the most improved brand overall followed by Mercure and NH Hoteles.

Other hotel brands which have made headway in the past 12 months include Best Western, Marriott, Hilton, Sofitel and Relais and Châteaux.

On a country by country basis, Hilton takes the lead in the UK Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands, while NH Hotels dominates in Spain, Steigenberger takes over the lead in Germany and Mercure dethrones Ibis in France.

"Hilton records highest top of mind mentions of any hotel brand in the region, and also is the most preferred brand based on the first and second choice of business guests," said Tim Sander, research director at BDRC.
