HMA appoints Steve Lowy chairman

The Hotel Marketing Association (HMA) has appointed Steve Lowy as its next chairman, succeeding Ed Purnell.

Lowy, former vice-chairman of the HMA, is the managing director and co-founder of Umi Digital, which helps independent hospitality operators increase their revenue through direct sales.

Purnell, who is director of field marketing UK & Ireland for Marriott International, will remain on the HMA committee following his three-year term as chairman.

Lowy, who will be among the speakers at next month's Digital Summit, said: "I am honoured and excited to be the new chairman of the HMA. Ed has done a wonderful job and looking forward to continuing the momentum and running many more interesting and educational events, to bring the UK hotel marketing industry together. There is nothing better than coming together to meet and learn ‘face to face' and working with HOSPA, I hope to offer many more opportunities for the industry to do that."

The following members have been re-elected for the following year: Pamela Carvell; Bernice Chan, Yotel; Julian Ebbutt, Best Loved Hotels; Martin Evans, the Tourism Business; Paul Hirons, the Royal Garden hotel; Sunita Lamba, Edwardian Hotels London; and Andrea McKay.
