Hotel manager at Shangri-La moves to London Edition as GM

Ammerstorfer, previously hotel manager at the Shangri-La hotel at the Shard, London, replaces David Taylor, who left the 173-bedroom property in April to head up a new brand of lifestyle hotels for the Starwood Capital Group.

A graduate in hotel and restaurant management from Modul University in Vienna, Ammerstofer first worked in London for three years from 2007 as cluster rooms division manager and food and beverage manager with Park Plaza Hotels. He returned to the capital as general manager of Hilton Worldwide's Trafalgar hotel in 2012 before moving to the Shangri-La eight months ahead of its opening in May 2014.

Ammerstofer has worked for Hilton Worldwide in Kuwait, Egypt and Jordan and spent six months in 2012 as general manager with Celebrity Cruises, based in Miami.

In his new role, he will oversee the hotel's successful restaurant Berners Tavern, launched by Jason Atherton and headed up in the kitchen by head chef Phil Carmichael.

A collaboration between Marriot International and Ian Schrager, the London Edition was launched to great acclaim in 2013. At the time it was the second hotel within the global lifestyle brand, joining a property in Istanbul. It has since been joined by further openings in Miami and New York.
