Hotel Missioni Edinburgh to be rebranded as Carlson Rezidor announces two new brands

The Hotel Missioni Edinburgh is to be rebranded following an announcement by the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group that it has ended its licencing agreement with the Italian fashion house.

Carlson Rezidor, which through its strategic partner Rezidor operates the Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson brands in the UK, revealed its decision alongside the launch of two new global hotel brands: Radisson Red and the Quorvus Collection.

Radission Red is to be a lifestyle brand of more than 60 hotels, while the Quorvus Collection will be made up of around 20 luxury properties.

The five-star, 136-bedroom Hotel Missioni Edinburgh, which opened in 2009, became the first property to be launched following an agreement in 2005 by Rezidor to create a global, contemporary brand featuring the distinct, colourful designs of the Italian fashion house.

A second hotel opened in Kuwait in 2011 and five more were being developed in Oman, Qatar, Turkey, Brazil and Mauritius. However, Rezidor and Missioni mutually agreed to terminate the worldwide master licence agreement for the operation of the brand and the development of all future properties, on 31 December 2013.

The Missioni name will be dropped from the Edinburgh and Kuwait hotels by 30 June 2014, with both properties - together with those hotels under development - being converted to other Rezidor brands.

Wolfgang Neumann, president and chief executive of Rezidor, said: "This decision is in line with our long-term strategy and focus on our core brands Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson. It is equally aligned with the redefinition of Carlson Rezidor's global brand portfolio. We would like to thank Missoni for their trust in our group and the close cooperation over the past years."

Carlson Rezidor said that its new Radission Red brand will be "an upscale, select service concept that boasts a forward-thinking focus on design and detail, the customer experience, personal interaction, personal choice" with a strong focus on technology. A mobile application will allow guests to check into the hotel and avoid reception, as well as order a drink in the bar, food from the deli, or a taxi for the airport, and manage the environment within their bedroom.

Meanwhile, the Quorvus Collection will feature five-star hotels which are individual in style and design, with a mix of historic, contemporary and boutique properties.

The Radission Red brand will be launched simultaneously in major cities worldwide in 2015, while the first hotels within the Quorvus Collection are expected to be announced in spring 2014.
