Hotelier Surinder Arora named regional CSR director of the year

Surinder Arora, founder and chairman of the Arora Group, has been presented with the chairman's award for corporate social responsibility at the London and South East Institute of Directors Awards.

The honour was made to recognise the £1.5m raised by the Arora charitable foundation. Two charity balls organised by the company have resulted in more than £1.2m being donated to Cancer Research, Caron Keating Foundation, Lily Foundation Against Child Trafficking and Evelina London Children's Hospital.

At a third ball, set to be held in the autumn 2016, Arora is hoping to raise a further £1m.

Held at the Institute of Directors, the award also saw Tim Jones, chairman of CH&Co Group, received the accolade for the director of the year for a company with a turnover of £100 to £299m.

The award's winners will now go forward to represent London and South East in the UK Director of the Year Finals, in October.
