Hotels urged to claim tax relief before April 2014

Hotels are being urged to act now to reclaim any tax relief they may be owed ahead of a rate change in 2014.

Tax relief may be sought on the cost of fixtures, fittings, kitchen and bathroom fittings, central heating and lifts, said chartered accountants and tax advisers Carpenter Box LLP.

The deadline is April 2014, after the 2012 Finance Bill stated that those who have not claimed by then will lose the option.

Relief may include a tax refund or a reduction in your future liability. Carpenter Box said one of its hospitality clients claimed had as much as £182,000 across all of their sites.

"Many hotels are simply not aware of what they could be claiming for," the company said.
