IHG's new Olympic hotels on track for 2012
A topping out ceremony has been held for two of the hotels closest to the Olympic Park in Stratford.
The 188-bedroom Holiday Inn London Stratford City and the 162-suite Staybridge Suites London Stratford City will open in time for London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Holiday Inn is the official hotel provider to the event.
The Staybridge Suites - an extended stay hotel and the first in London - is situated within the same property as the Holiday Inn. The two hotels will be operated by a Patron Capital and Cycas Hospitality partnership, under a franchise agreement with InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG).
As well as enjoying views of the Olympic Park, both hotels are located in the heart of the Westfield Stratford City Development, which includes the largest urban shopping centre in Europe.
Paul Edgecliffe-Johnson, IHG's acting president for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the hotels will be at the heart of the Olympics. "Looking forward, the hotels are part of the regeneration of east London, allowing Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites to be part of the Games' legacy.
There are currently 237 Holiday Inn hotels in the UK, with 22 more in the pipeline. The Staybridge Suites London Stratford City will be the third Staybridge Suites to open in the UK after launches in Liverpool and Newcastle.
