IHRA cancels conference

The International Hotel & Restaurant Association's (IH&RA) 43rd annual congress has been cancelled suddenly.

The event, which was due to be held in Buenos Aires in Argentina, from 26-29 October was called off late last week by the host country's hotel and restaurant association.

Following the succession of a new president at the Federacion Empresaria Hotelera Gastronomica de la Republica Argentina (FEHGRA), the association decided it could not honour the commitment made by its previous leader.

With less than seven weeks before the start of the event, the host country formally notified the IH&RA.

Dieter Huckestein, president of the IH&RA, said: "This is a huge disappointment particularly in view of the excellent programme and prestigious and influential programme of high-level keynote speakers lined up to bring delegates from all over the world to the exciting city of Buenos Aires."
