Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has poached a senior executive from Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

Former Starwood executive vice-president and chief technology officer Tom Conophy has joined IHG in the newly created position of information officer.

He will also take a seat on the company's group executive committee.

Andrew Cosslett, chief executive officer of IHG, said that the appointment of Conophy was crucial to the company's future development.

"Tom has extensive experience in developing new technology solutions within the travel and hospitality industry," said Cosslett. "This is an exciting new role and I am delighted to welcome Tom to the company."
