Ivan Holroyd joins Sharrow Bay as GM

Sharrow Bay hotel in the Lake District has appointed Ivan Holroyd as general manager.

Holroyd joins the 17-bedroom hotel in Ullswater near Penrith, Cumbria, following general manager positions at the Roker hotel in Sunderland and the Borrowdale hotel near Keswick, and roles as operations manager of Greetham Valley hotel and hotels manager with Adnams.

He replaces Oliver Smith, who has left the hotel after six years to join the Samling hotel in Ambleside, Cumbria.

Holroyd said: "It's a very exciting time at Sharrow Bay and I'm delighted to be joining its dedicated and longstanding team."

Sharrow Bay was pioneered as one of the first British country house hotels by Brian Sack and Francis Coulson in the 1950s. It was snapped up by entrepreneur James Caan in 2012 following the collapse of Andrew Davis's Von Essen Hotels group, and was bought back by Davies in 2013.
