James Huyton crowned Young Highland Chef of the Year 2016

James Huyton chef de partie at the three-AA-rosette restaurant the Lovat Loch Ness in Fort Augustus, Scotland, has been announced as Young Highland Chef of the Year 2016.

The 23-year-old chef won a week's work experience at the two-Michelin-starred Le Gavroche in Mayfair, London and a cheque for £500.

The first round was a three-course paper entry, from which eight finalists were chosen to compete during a live cook-off.

Director and head chef of the Lovat Loch Ness, Sean Kelly, said: "James has worked exceptionally hard for this accolade, starting at 6:00am in the morning to perfect his dishes before completing a full day at work - this shows incredible dedication, so for me this award is very well deserved. The win is also great for the team, boosting morale in the kitchen - everyone is on an up!"
