Jonathan Slater to sail across Atlantic ocean for charity
Jonathan Slater, the former managing director of the Chester Grosvenor hotel, will be sailing across the Atlantic ocean to raise money for the Worshipful Company of Innholders Charitable Foundation.
Slater hopes to arrive in St Lucia around 21 days later, which will be the first time he will see land after starting the journey.
He has opted to do the catering for the trip and has promised the food he serves to his fellow crew members will be a cut above the normal crossing fare.
Slater, who holds the title of Master Innholder and sits on the organisation's committee board, said: "The charity I have chosen to support is a wonderful one and very important within the hospitality industry. They not only provide scholarships and bursaries to young people starting out in the industry but they also focus on providing relief to elderly people suffering from financial hardship, sickness and poor health."
He added: "I'm incredibly excited about this challenge. I've always been passionate about sailing - in fact I was the schoolboy dinghy champion as a youngster - and I've always dreamt of making this crossing."
Slater runs a management company, which is developing and managing the Oddfellows group of boutique hotels.
The group's second hotel Oddfellows in the Park Cheadle, Manchester - which is currently being built - will follow on from Oddfellows Chester.
He said: "We are already on site and cracking on with the build. It will be exciting to see the progress we make on the project while I am away."
