Designed in the late 19th century by Dutch architect Daniel Knuttel, the hotel is situated alongside the exclusive shopping street - the PC Hooftstraat - in the former home of the Sweelinck music conservatorium. It is a sister hotel to the Café Royal hotel which is due to open on Regent Street, London, in June 2012.
