Kempinski Hotels launches energy consultancy
Kempinski Hotels claims to be the first hotel group worldwide to create its own energy consultancy, aimed specifically for the industry's needs.
KREEN, standing for Kempinski Renewable Energies, aims to optimise energy consumption management at Kempinski hotels and other hotel brands. It will assist in establishing and implementing policies for efficient energy use and renewable energies during a hotel's pre-opening period, as well as offering long-term advice, planning and project management.
In time, the consultancy will review all 72 hotels within Kempinski's global portfolio, including the five-star, 105-bedroom Safford London by Kempinski.
KREEN is a joint venture between Geneva-based Kempinski Hotels, Marshfield Energy Switzerland and ÜWG Engineering. Kempinski's partners will provide the technical knowledge in the field of renewable energies.
Reto Wittwer, president and chief executive of Kempinski Hotels said that sustainability within hotels is important for ecological, social and economic reasons. "KREEN brings us one major step forward, and it also makes us an even more attractive management company for future hotel projects and in the eyes of potential investors.
"Consulting to other hotel groups or chains is part of a long-term plan."
