Kensington DoubleTree relaunches as 100 Queen's Gate hotel

The 228-bedroom property, owned by Crimson Hotels, is the latest addition to the brand in the UK, joining the Lincoln Plaza London and the Trafalgar St James.

The property was formerly the home of Victorian aristocrat and lawyer William Henry Alexander, who became well known for his collection of jewels and curios collected on his travels to the Far East. The hotel features 11 suites named after famous historic residents of Kensington including Alfred Hitchcock, Dame Agatha Christie and Captain Robert Scott.

As well as the addition of 25 new guest rooms, the hotel now features three new food and beverage venues: W/A Kensington, an all-day brasserie and bar offering British-French fusion cuisine; Botanica, housed in a botanical glasshouse, designed for afternoon teas and cocktails; and ESQ bar, inspired by Alexander's parlour bar and his exotic travels.

Mary Doogan, cluster general manager, said: "Following a two-year transformation, we are excited to open 100 Queen's Gate Hotel - London, the newest Curio Collection by Hilton hotel… The hotel is thoughtfully designed, in keeping with the building's Victorian history - from the cabinets of curiosities and décor, to Botanica, the Victorian-inspired orangery."

The hotel was redesigned in collaboration with UK-based architects Morrison Design and interior design companies DesignLSM and Newman Gauge.

Curio first launched in the UK with the rebrand of the Trafalgar St James London in 2017 and the group has also signed a franchise agreement with the Gantry Group to open the London Gantry in Stratford under its Curio Collection in 2020.

Launched in 2014, the Curio Collection by Hilton is a soft brand of "upper upscale hotels with character" and is one of the group's 17 brands. Hilton has 65 Curio properties worldwide.
