A young hotel worker died yesterday after being hit by a car while hitchhiking with her boyfriend on Skye.
Twenty-one-year-old Australian Maddy Rice, who worked at Kinloch Lodge hotel and restaurant with her partner Joe Perry, had been hitchhiking when the accident happened near the Sligachan hotel, according to https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/islands/939316/wonderful-hotel-worker-knocked-down-and-killed-on-skye-road/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer">The Press and Journal.
The pair were thought to be returning to Kinloch Lodge hotel in Sleat when the accident happened.
Isabella Macdonald, director of Kinloch Lodge, told The Press and Journal that staff had been left "utterly devastated" by the death of their colleague. "It is absolutely heartbreaking," she said. "We are all utterly devastated at the tragic and sudden loss of Maddy.
"She was devoted to her wonderful partner, Joe, and our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to him and her family. She was a wonderful and beautiful person as well as being an incredibly hard-working member of our team and we will miss her greatly."
The Press and Journal understands that Rice was from Queensland, Australia, and Perry from Auckland, New Zealand. Since arriving in Britain, Rice is believed to have worked as a beauty therapist in London before moving to Skye to work at Kinloch Lodge.
Ms Rice was hit by a Vauxhall car. The man who was driving was uninjured.
