Lanarkshire's Shieldhill Castle hotel brought to the market

The historic Shieldhill Castle hotel in Lanarkshire has been brought to the market for offers in excess of £750,000.

The castle, which has overlooked the Clyde Valley for more than 800 years, and has 30 rooms, 16 of which are in the castle, 10 in a stable annexe and four in chalet lodges.

The property was converted for use as a hotel in 1959 and has welcomed illustrious guests, including Nelson Mandela, who stayed while attending a Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

The hotel ceased trading earlier this year when the tenant operator vacated the premises and is being sold on behalf of the mortgagees in possession.

A three-bedroom private house and 6.5 acres of private grounds are included within the sale.
