Lancaster London wins top accolade at Considerate Hoteliers Association awards

The Lancaster London has been named Hotel of the Year 2011/12 in the Considerate Hoteliers Association's (CHA) annual awards.

According to the judges, the 416-bedroom hotel has succeed in a wide range of environmental and social initiatives, with a special emphasis this year - in conjunction with WRAP - on food waste. In particular, the property has worked hard on conserving energy and water, supporting sustainable food and its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Head judge Professor John Forte said he was impressed by the Lancaster London's willingness to communicate and spread the environmental message to suppliers, guests and staff, as well as a willingness to share its experiences with competitors.

Fellow judge Dr Richard Swannell, director of design and waste prevention at WRAP, added that the hotel was strong in all areas, having succeeded in saving money and reducing environmental impact in difficult economic times. "Achieving zero waste to landfill - through waste prevention, procurement changes, reuse and recycling - was particularly impressive," he said.

The Lancaster London was presented with a Dartington Crystal decanter at a celebratory lunch today at the Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane.

Among the other CHA award winners were:

â- The Considerate Small Accommodation Provider of the Year Award - Hotel Petit Champ, Sark, Channel Islands
