Larry Lipman buys listed 14th-century Oxfordshire inn

Safestay chairman Larry Lipman has bought the Grade II-listed Shaven Crown in Shipton-under-Wychwood.

Believed to have been licensed as long ago as 1384, the Shaven Crown was placed on the market following an extensive refurbishment for £1.1m. The property is understood to not be related to Lipman's involvement in Safestay.

Originally constructed as a hospice for the monks at nearby Bruern Abbey, the seven-bedroom inn retains many of its original medieval features, including the Great Hall, which now serves as a lounge.

In addition, there is three-bedroom accommodation in a wing at the back of the hotel.

Peter Brunt, a hotels director with global real estate advisor Colliers International, which brokered the deal, said: "The inn has been bought by Larry Lipman, one of the main driving forces behind the Safestay business which runs 13 hostels in seven countries and claims to deliver one million rooms per night across the globe."
