Lifetime Achievement Award for Ian Schrager
Ian Schrager, who is the inspiration behind the London Edition and its restaurant Berners Street Tavern, which is currently wowing guests and customers alike, is to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF) in Berlin.
Taking place from 3 to 5 March 2014, IHIF presents the award annually to a personality within the hospitality industry who has provided inspirational leadership and vision.
Tess Pearson, event director Questex Media Group, the hosts of IHIF said that Schrager is synonymous with "groundbreaking concepts" that have changed the hospitality business. "We are genuinely delighted to be able to publically recognise the developments Ian has made throughout his career at IHIF 2014. As his European reach expands with the launch of Edition Hotels with Marriott International, we feel that it is timely to celebrate Ian and his achievements."
From his initial ventures, the nightclubs Studio 54 and Palladium, through to the opening of Morgans Hotel in 1984 and subsequent creation of the Ian Schrager Company which owns, develops and manages hotels, Schrager has probably had more influence than anyone on the way hotels look worldwide today.
His vision, which has centred on reading the mood of the time, has been widely associated with the introduction of the boutique hotel, lobby socialising, and urban resorts.
"Throughout my career I have tried to provide guests with more than just a place to sleep by creating authentic, one-of-a-kind experiences that capture the zeitgeist and reflect the spirit of the times. I feel very fortunate that the hotel industry has given me this tremendous opportunity."
