London continues to lead Europe in hotel development

London continues to lead the way as the European city with the most hotel bedrooms in active development, according to the February 2010 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.

By the end of last month, the capital had a total of 7,824 rooms in the pipeline, with Berlin (4,792 rooms) and Moscow (4,357) in second and third place.

Overall, the UK was the country with the most rooms in active planning with 28,878. Germany had 19,191 rooms under development and Russia had 15,361.

In total there were 650 hotels, comprising 111,031, rooms, throughout Europe in the hotel development pipeline.

According to STR Global figures, there are a total of 3.5 million hotel bedrooms in Europe.
