Luxury hotel planned for Blackpool's Golden Mile
Updated plans for a luxury hotel on Blackpool's Golden Mile have been unveiled this week.
The revised plans for the multi-million pound development of the Sands entertainment venue, operated by businessman and Scunthorpe United FC chairman Peter Swann, include a new glass atrium that will provide a "unique and attractive breakout space" and will be overlooked by some of the 96 en suite bedrooms planned.
The Sands Venue Resort and Hotel scheme already has outline planning permission and this latest submission is to agree "reserved matters" setting out the full vision for the first time. Plans include "large penthouse suites on the corner aspects of the hotel, which will provide stunning views out over the Promenade and the Irish Sea", according to a design statement accompanying the latest application.
The designs have been created by architects Frank Whittle Partnership, which has refurbished a number of hotels in the north of England and drawn up the masterplan and design for Scunthorpe United's new stadium.
The Sands Venue Resort plans include a single storey side extension and a three-storey extension to the roof to house the hotel bedrooms. The building would be clad with glazed walls wrapping around the existing concrete and brick structure to create an "almost crystal-like" appearance with a highly reflective skin that changes with the weather.
The plans also include the creation of a 55-slot basement car park and the demolition of a foot bridge over Bank Hey Street.
A spokesman for Peter Swann said: "We are making no comment at this time until full planning has been obtained."
