Man and woman found dead at Scotsman Hotel, Edinburgh
A man and a woman have died after a reported "chemical incident" at the five-star Scotsman Hotel, central Edinburgh.
The bodies of the as-yet-unidentified individuals were found in a hotel room at 12.15pm. An ambulance was called to the incident at 12.21pm today, and fire-fighters were also called to the scene.
Three floors of the hotel have been evacuated as a safety precaution, while the immediate vicinity has also been cordoned off.
A police investigation is underway but a Scotland Police spokesperson said that the incident was "being treated as unexplained at this time". She confirmed that nobody else is suspected of being involved and there is no risk to staff or to members of the public.
The five-star hotel is part of JJW Hotels & Resorts, ultimately headed by billionaire Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber. The company bought the Scotsman Hotel Group after it went into administration in October last year, amid reported losses to bankers of £26million.
