Master Innholders and Institute of Hospitality launch new leadership diploma
The Master Innholders and Institute of Hospitality have created a new qualification, the Master Innholders Aspiring Leaders Diploma, designed for hotel staff who demonstrate management or leadership potential.
The qualification was created after the Master Innholders decided it wanted a practical management development programme suitable for its personnel but decided it didn't want to create one from scratch.
Instead Master Innholders based the programme on the Institute of Hospitality's Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality (Level 3) qualification. Additional optional units have been added to that qualification, along with a significant leadership skills development programme.
The resulting course consists of 16 units to be completed during eight residential sessions over eight months. Each session will last three days and be hosted at various Master Innholder properties, giving the opportunity to enjoy inspiring surroundings whilst studying particular management issues associated with the host property. In order to minimise disruption to the working week, the residential sessions will run from Sunday lunchtime to Tuesday afternoon.
Stuart Johnson FIH MI, chairman of the Master Innholders (pictured), said: "A unique aspect of the course is that it enables candidates to study at a number of high-end hotel businesses, providing the opportunity for wider staff development, use of real-life case studies and discussion of hotel-related topics. We are really excited to be launching this initiative at a time when the industry needs to focus on leadership and management development."
The first cohort of candidates is due to start the programme at the end of April with completion expected by January 2013.
