McKever Hotels buys property in Gretna Green

The fast-growing, Glasgow-based McKever Hotels group has bought the four-star Gables hotel near Gretna Green town centre in Dumfriesshire.

The original building was constructed around 1917 for the Ministry of War Munitions, and has expanded over the years.

Unsurprisingly, it is a popular wedding venue and its 31 en-suite bedrooms (to sleep 68) include six luxury and bridal suites.

It has a number of dining and function rooms, including the 40-seat Borders restaurant, the Sadlers lounge bar, the 24-capacity Garden Room and the 18-capacity Fountain Room.

The main Galloway Suite incorporates a private bar and dance floor and can accommodate up to 110 guests buffet-style.

Outside, there is a terrace off the Sadlers lounge bar with a gazebo for smokers, along with parking for 47 cars.

The Glasgow office of Colliers Robert Barry sold the feuhold off a guide price of £1.5m on behalf of Ailsa Waggot and her daughter Carol Roberts, who have run the business for 17 years.
