Mondrian hotel bar Dandelyan wins big at 2015 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards
Dandelyan, the bar at the Tom Dixon-designed Mondrian London hotel, has been named Best Overall Bar, one of two overall winners of the 2014/2015 Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.
The other overall winner, for Best Overall Restaurant, was the Jane, a site in Antwerp, Belgium, designed by Piet Boon.
The seventh annual awards ceremony was hosted at London's Old Truman Brewery on 1 October, and crowned winners in 36 categories, including Best International and Best UK. The awards seek to cover "every imaginable space", including ships, airports, museums, and burger vans.
This year's awards attracted over 860 entries from across the UK and 70 other countries, with judges from across the industries of hospitality, design, and lifestyle.
Other notable UK winners included the Gallery at Michelin-starred restaurant Sketch, designed by India Mahdavi (Best UK Restaurant); Dirty Martini at Monument London, designed by Grapes Design (Best Multiple Bar or Club); George's Fish and Chip Kitchen in Nottingham, designed by Philip Watts Design (Best Restaurant or Bar in a Heritage Building); the Street Kitchen in Nottingham, by Dalziel and Pow Design Consultants (Best Restaurant or Bar in a Retail Space), and the Bar at Fortnum & Mason at London's Heathrow Airport, designed by the Universal Design Studio (Best Restaurant or Bar in a Transport Space).
There were also awards for casual dining groups Nando's, whose STAC Architecture & BuckleyGrayYeoman site in Loughton won the UK Fast/Casual category, and Wahaca, whose Softroom-designed Cardiff site took the award for Best UK Multiple Restaurant.
The UK & International Category also included a win for London's Beast, by Stephen Garrett Studio (Best Identity).
Last year's UK winners included the restaurant Ametsa with Arzak Instruction, the Hutong Shard, One Canada Square, Christopher's Bar, Whyte & Brown, and the Tap On The Line in Richmond.
