Morgans Hotel Group to build its first residences in Miami

Design-led hotel company, Morgans Hotel Group (MHG), has announced it is to create its first hotel residences in Miami.

Innovative Dutch designer, Marcel Wanders, has been recruited to design the Mondrian South Beach hotel residences, which are due to open in December 2007.

The 342 studios, one and two-bedroom apartments and penthouses will be built on the waterfront of the fashionable, up-and-coming neighbourhood of Biscayne Bay.

Wanders is working on the theme of Sleeping Beauty's castle, where guests will step into a magical world.

Ed Scheetz, president and chief executive officer of MHG, said: "Marcel represents the very finest in bold, new, innovative design. With Mondrian South beach we are extending the diversity of our brands in a market we know well."

MHG, which operates The Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels in London, is currently developing other projects in Florida, Las Vegas and Nevada.
