New chief at Tourism Society

Flo Powell is the new chief of networking organisation the Tourism Society.

Powell, who was an events co-ordinator at Events by Appointment, joins the society as executive director.

Her responsibilities include overseeing the organisation's event calendar, producing its quarterly journal and sustaining, supporting and increasing its membership.

Society chairman David Curtis-Brignell said: "We celebrate our 30th anniversary in 2007 and will shortly be moving to new offices and making further staff appointments to ensure the Tourism Society is in the right shape to meet the needs of our 21st century membership."

Powell previously worked for the society as meetings and membership executive from September 2003 to May 2005.

Founded in 1977 as a network for hospitality and tourism professionals, the society moves to new offices in August at the HCIMA's building in Sutton, Surrey. It also houses the Academy of Food and Wine Service.
